Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - cbelt3 - 11-01-2010 These guys are AWESOME ! )(Ohio's ratings... Barely true) Browsing through this tireless group of fact-checker's results for my state... I agree with the points that they have made on the cases I'm familiar with... The most egregious lying in Ohio is coming from the Governor's race, which is rapidly approaching "Pants on Fire" levels. Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - Sam3 - 11-01-2010 I wish we had something like this in Michigan. The ads are getting absurd. It's more about who not to vote for than who to vote for. Makes me want to not vote, as the ads make every single candidate out to be losers. Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - RgrF - 11-01-2010 A good place to start would by ignoring paid ads altogether. Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - Sam3 - 11-01-2010 I wish I could. Unfortunately, I'm bombarded by them all workday long. Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - $tevie - 11-01-2010 What's interesting in Maryland is that late last week our gubernatorial candidates began running more traditional "here's why I am good" ads, after months of demonizing each other. I can't quite figure out the strategy they are following: are we supposed to think they are responding to complaints or do they just consider us warmed up enough by now to listen to the sales pitch? Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - August West - 11-01-2010 Thanks for the Politifact link ! Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... The only ads I see/hear are the ones on my radio alarm clock and on the car radio on the drive to work. The debris that the mailman brings gets shoved into the recycling bin without reading. Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - OWC Jamie - 11-01-2010 Odd, I don't get too many phone ads at work. Maybe they are being very careful not to call business numbers. Same with the mail ads. None at the business address. About 4 a day at home. The worst attack ads here seem to have been paid for by national sources as disclosed on the mail ads. Same as two years ago. Almost makes consideration of local politics being funded locally only . Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - Gutenberg - 11-01-2010 Yes, the national committees can place those attack ads and the local candidate can disavow them. It is a pretty rotten situation, and unfortunately many voters are not sufficiently motivated to do their own research. Re: Campaign reform Suggestion... Require PoliFact rating on all ads, mailings, phone calls - kap - 11-01-2010 We have been bombarded with phone ads for the past two weeks from both parties. We need a PolitiFact for CA! Or is it beyond help now? |
