OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - pRICE cUBE - 01-07-2011 Take it with a grain of salt or else your water might taste funny. http://breakingnews.ewg.org/bottled-water-2011-search Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - the_poochies - 01-07-2011 Bottled water is a tremendous waste of money and resources. Below are two photos of a cleanup my small nonprofit conducted back in the spring. Along an urbanized stretch of tidal marsh, I encountered tens of thousands of plastic bottles. In some places my feet sank into 2' of plastic debris. ![]() We filled three 30-yard dumpsters with plastic trash, most of it spring water bottles. Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - ztirffritz - 01-07-2011 Using plastic bottles without having a viable recycling program in place is just stupid. Plastic is easily reprocessed. The bulk of plastic is of just a few types, so separating them shouldn't be too difficult. Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - mikebw - 01-07-2011 The is a drainage / wooded area between some houses nearby that is filling up with plastic bottles too. Basically anything on the street that washes down the storm drain goes here and the bottles just stick around. I had plans to clean it up but the area is fenced off so I am guessing they don't want people in there. Anyway, yes bottled water is a huge waste. Unless there are no other options for clean water it would be better to re-use bottles with filtered/tap water. Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - haikuman - 01-07-2011 We are paying about $1 delivered for 5gal bottles of water/filtered & purified via reverse osmosis. The 5gal jugs are exchanged for new ones about once every 2 weeks. YMMV. If we purchase any juice in plastic bottles we recycle them. I think that is the users of plastic responsibility and obligation. Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - DaviDC. - 01-07-2011 Bottled water is one of the biggest cons ever carried out in this country. Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - mjgkramer - 01-07-2011 We have our own well that produces good quality water that has a lot of minerals in it. All water going into the house goes through a commercial grade softener. Water for drinking and ice then goes through reverse osmosis / filtration system under the kitchen sink that generates great tasting water. When used in water kettles, irons, etc. it leaves no scale. With this system we do not have to buy bottled water. Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - maco - 01-07-2011 So far the worst tap water that I have tasted is in Midland, TX. Having your own well is a blessing. I have also used the same home system of filtration in the past. Filtering your water is a good thing ~!~ Rudie |
