Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - Anthony - 03-14-2011 My macbook has been bogging down lately with web surfing. Awhile ago I called Apple and they had me trash certain files that helped but I forgot to write down what those files were. Anybody here know or have a suggestion? I've reset Safari and emptied the cache. Re: Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - Fritz - 03-14-2011 Maybe run Cocktail on Onyx for other scripts? Re: Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - LyleH - 03-14-2011 If you didn't empty your trash they will still be there - you'd just have to figure out which ones they are. LyleH Re: Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - tlh828 - 03-14-2011 Same thing has been happening with my 2.66 GhHz Quad-Core Xeon on the internet. A restart, about every day, keeps the speeds up. Three other Macs on the wireless LAN are unaffected. When it slows, to about 1 Mbs download speed (from about 10 Mbs), both Safari and Firefox are affected. Onyx did not help nor did DiskWarrior nor repairing permissions. Re: Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - modelamac - 03-14-2011 They will be in the Library/Cache folder. The easy way to solve that problem, not necessarily the slow internet but which files to trash is to use OnyX to do the work for your. If you have any anti-malware program(s) running, they could be adding to the slowdown. Re: Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - M A V I C - 03-14-2011 Try Chrome and see if you have the same issue. I've run into some sites that have nasty JavaScript which really bog down some browsers. I found one that causes a memory leak in Safari. Add a couple of public DNS addresses to the beginning of the list of DNS servers in your Network preferences. Try these from OpenDNS and Verizon: 208.67.220.220 4.2.2.4 Re: Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - silvarios - 03-14-2011 Google DNS is okay as well, assuming you don't mind routing all your DNS through google. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 Re: Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - Anthony - 03-15-2011 Wow, okay. Thanks! The DNS did the trick. Re: Internet bogging down - what files to trash? - silvarios - 03-15-2011 Glad that Chakravartin's suggestion worked. |
