Millionaire's heirs get inheritance after 92 yrs - Trouble - 05-18-2011

Ninety-two years after his death, Saginaw lumber baron Wellington R. Burt is finally parting with the fortune he withheld from his descendants until 21 years after the death of the last grandchild born in his lifetime.

The estate is now valued at $100 million to $110 million. It will be shared among 12 of his heirs later this month.

Under terms of Burt's will, the bulk of the estate was to be distributed 21 years after the death of his last surviving grandchild.

Sounds like he wasn't all that fond of his family that was around when he was alive... but held out hope that THEIR kids wouldn't turn out as bad as they did....

He must have disliked his living family.

Yet he disliked the idea of giving away his fortune philanthropically even more, it would seem.

His heirs are welcome to donate their shares.

Sounds like the team of 21 Lawyers took a nice big bite out of the fortune.
How about you go shake them down for some philanthropic payola?

Hmmm.....not a bad idea. "Sir, i'd like to apply for a grant from your foundation. You see, i, too, hate my living family, and want to carry on your tradition of really making that happen."

What? An industry magnate wasn't a sweet, loving, dear man beloved by all? Well, i guess we're still waiting for the first one, then. :jest:

This story is from my neck of the woods. He sounds like an a-hole because he was.

But there are some from the area that were respected and beloved by all. C.S. Mott comes to mind. Heck, I even went to his college.

Oh - so THAT'S who Charles S. Mott was. If my family hadn't moved away from Michigan at the end of my Jr. High School years, I would have been a Charles S. Mott High School alum...
