Does every state's DMV fleece you? - graylocks - 11-27-2013 while trying to switch to a different car insurance company yesterday, a move that would have saved me about $600, i learned my son's drivers license was suspended. long story short he received two citations this summer for not wearing his seat belt and in his arrogant adolescent ignorance simply ignored them. he missed two court dates and his license was suspended on october 18. bonehead mistake on not wearing his seat belt and having magical thinking that the tickets would just go away. he's paying me back the $422 it took today to clean up the mess. my annoyance is that the state sent absolutely no notice that his license was suspended. i can see not sending notices that a court date is approaching - it's your ticket and one should take care of it. but i think a notice should be sent when a license is suspended as driving without a valid license is a pretty serious offense. he had no idea his license had been suspended. it just seems like they want the fines to grow and for penalties to set in. i mentioned it to a friend and she said the same thing happened to her husband when he got a ticket he ignored in north carolina. he wound up having to drive back to north carolina to deal with it. last year my son was ticketed for not having his license on his person. we couldn't pay the fine until it posted on the city's website. we checked for 3 weeks until it finally posted. even then it seemed like they delayed things in the hopes that eventually you'd forget about it and wind up paying more. does every state not notify people when their license is suspended? Re: Does every state's DMV fleece you? - C(-)ris - 11-27-2013 Most states mail a form telling you it was suspended...to whatever address they have on file. They also send you a notice that you haven't paid a fine. I would bet that the address they have listed isn't correct for whatever reason. Re: Does every state's DMV fleece you? - bazookaman - 11-27-2013 Maybe he got the notification and in his arrogant adolescent ignorance simply ignored it.
