So I watched Star Trek Into Darkness (spoiler discussion) - pRICE cUBE - 05-30-2014

Was able to watch it on a recent flight.

Interesting twist on the original khan story but come on, that was not an intimidating Khan in the least. They guy is supposed to be a genetically altered marvel of muscle and mind power. He just looked like an annoyed skinny guy. Didn't work for me.

I did laugh pretty hard when Scotty had to catch his breath from running through the huge starship he stowed away on.

My final verdict, li still am angry at JJ for LOST so I am glad I watched on someone else's dime.

I feel that there is room for the movies and episodic Star Trek.

Back to watching DS9.

My biggest beefs were the lack of logic in the science, Roddenberry made sure that things were scientifically plausible, and the retelling of one of the original Star Trek's favorite stories. J.J. was supposed to reboot Star Trek; in my mind that implies telling new and fresh stories, not rehashing old stories.

Even if he did use the same characters, how about changing up loyalties, I could see that Kirk and Khan could become allies against a corrupt Star Fleet, (or a corrupt segment of Star Fleet). What Star Trek did so well was play off of social issues of the day, the new Star Trek could have done the same, instead we get this shlock. I think the reboots are fun science fiction/fantasy adventures, but they aren't Star Trek.

The silliest part of the Abrams' lens-flare-a-thon was the ridiculous "two guys fighting it out on the back of the moving train" sequence near the end. Benedict Cumberbatch is fun to watch.

Gotta love Ricardo's over-the-top portrayal. A classic..

I found it a thoroughly forgettable shoot-em-up, with some vaguely familiar character names.

As much as I respect some of the casting ( I mean, damn... Quinto does a hell of a Spock, and Karl Urban plays McCoy extrememly well! - I may have issues with the lines and direction they're given, but they themselves are outstanding!).... it was but a poor mirror of "Star Trek".

I hope that the next attempted "reboot" of "Star Trek" is focused on DS9, and done by someone who respects and loves the things that make Star Trek great.

The Abrams movies are the Star Trek equivalent of cheap Mexican food. Fun while it's happening, but an hour later you wonder what the hell you just ate.

I had the same thought on the actor playing Khan. Not menacing at all. More like a pouty wuss. And a rehashed story, why not something new and original? That alone was the most disappointing thing for me. The first JJ ST was entertaining, this one, meh. Hopefully he does Star Wars right.

And to continue the analogy; A few days later, you find yourself at the same Taco Bell, and wondering "Why do I do this?".... and yet, you order it anyway...

Yeah, I'm passing on a run to the border when that talentless hack Orci takes over for the next one.

I have no rational explanation as to why I'll be lined up with everybody else for Star Wars VII, though...
