"Verizon to Netflix: Here’s a cease-and-desist letter. Can you hear me now?" - $tevie - 06-05-2014 Verizon is threatening to sue Netflix in the latest tit-for-tat between the companies over a controversial error message some Netflix subscribers have been seeing. A cease-and-desist letter by Verizon calls Netflix's new error message — which blames Verizon's network for laggy downloads — "deceptive" and "false," arguing that Netflix's claims could potentially harm Verizon's business. "In light of this, Verizon demands that Netflix immediately cease and desist from providing any such further 'notices' to users of the Verizon network," the company wrote. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2014/06/05/verizon-to-netflix-heres-a-cease-and-desist-letter-can-you-hear-me-now/ Re: "Verizon to Netflix: Here’s a cease-and-desist letter. Verizon's throttling, and then accepting payment to speed up Netflix traffic, could potentially harm Netflix's business. Jeff Re: "Verizon to Netflix: Here’s a cease-and-desist letter. Can you hear me now?" - Will Collier - 06-05-2014 Damn right it could harm Verizon's business, and it should. Re: "Verizon to Netflix: Here’s a cease-and-desist letter. Can you hear me now?" - ztirffritz - 06-05-2014 Netflix has a pretty compelling position, unless they're straight up lying. If Verizon is the source of the problem, well, they just paid Verizon to resolve that problem, so the problem shouldn't exist. If they can prove that in fact Verizon is the source of the problem then Verizon probably owes Netflix money. I'd imagine that if they've been legally extorted - forced to pay extra for what they're already paying for - and they're still not getting the service that they should be, you better bet they're calling to call out Verizon on that. After agreeing to pay ComCast and Verizon, I'd wager that Netflix is implimenting a robust system to check and verify where the connection is breaking down as standard practice. Can you hear me now?" - deckeda - 06-05-2014 Verizon can suck it. It's trivial for Netflix or any content provider to prove the bandwidth they can deliver to an ISP. Re: "Verizon to Netflix: Here’s a cease-and-desist letter. Can you hear me now?" - Gutenberg - 06-05-2014 Verizon has been charging top dollar for lousy Internet service for at least a decade. I have no sympathy for them. I was paying $24.95 plus taxes for .75 mbps. Go to hell, Verizon. Re: "Verizon to Netflix: Here’s a cease-and-desist letter. Used to be $15/month and Verizon kept jacking up the price. Or you had the choice of $40+ for 1.5 Mbps. Not even 3Mbps service made it to most of the communities I lived in/near. Oh yeah, and just try getting a naked DSL line. Since that was nearly, if not outright, impossible, don't forget the bundling of the overpriced POTS line as well. Hard to believe you don't have decent ISP options available to you, living as you do in a major American city. Where is the disconnect in your situation? |
