Celeb photos leak; fingers point at Apple - Mike Johnson - 09-01-2014
Many nude photos of celebrities have been leaked in the last couple days. Some of the celebrities say they're fake while others have said the photos -- mostly iPhone selfies -- are authentic but stolen.
People are claiming a weakness in iCloud security may be to blame.

There is some doubt that it was iCloud-since videos are not on the PhotoStream. Time will tell

As a shareholder, I sure hope it’s not Apple. Videos do get backed up to iCloud accounts, so I don’t take any comfort from that.
One celeb -- it’s weird these celebrities are in the news and I haven’t heard of 3/4 of them -- made a big point of saying she uses Android. She also insists the photos are fake and points out a couple of moles on her chest that are missing from the purported photos of her. So no comfort there.
I do take comfort in that people see evidence that Dropbox was involved, but only to the extent that it’s not Apple. I use Dropbox, and I’d like it to be secure from brute force attacks.

i guess what i find amazing is that people have pictures of themselves and others naked on their phone. granted, i don't get out much, but it has never occurred to me to take a nude picture of anyone much less with my phone. perhaps we should take a forum poll on this to measure how common this is.
