Ugh: I need to find better Farcebook Friends - cbelt3 - 08-09-2016
One of my 'friends' (high school classmate, Graduated Annapolis in '81, Naval officer (Sub Service, attack subs), on shore duty in Beiruit when the barracks were bombed, worked in the rescue efforts, etc... Not a stupid guy.
But... his buddies all freaked out about Ibtihaj Muhammad . The amount of hate and ugliness (Yes... associated with Drumpf) towards this young woman is terrifying.
What The Heck Is WRONG with these people ????
Hey.. I fenced NCAA. Sabre fencers are the crazy ones. Don't mess with this lady !

I personally find her responses to media pandering and public harassment to be honest, thoughtful, and refreshing. It's also a pity that her Olympic fencing career just ended, but I expect she will continue to fence at the amateur level for many years to come. It's a lifetime thing for many people. (I was too badly injured to continue, alas. I'd love to do it again, but it is not to be.)

If it is your friend's friends who are posting nonsense, then it's not fair to blame your friend. My brother is a fine liberal and kind person but having gone to school on the conservative Eastern Shore he has FB Friends who are quite conservative and some are wing nuts. I'm not going to unFriend my brother.
When you see a poster on your Friend's timeline who is a jerk, click on their profile and block them. Then you can visit your friend/Friend's page and not be bothered by the crazy people.

Heh. I had a team mate who was a little Cleveland guy of Croatian descent. Perhaps 5'1". He fenced the Saber. He could jump 5 feet into the air from a dead stop. I watched him jump OVER an opponent , flip, and win with a head cut from above his opponent. For a hobby he would indulge in (Bowie) knife fights with his friends from the old neighborhood, just to 'first blood'. I would rather get in a fight with Edward Scissorhands.
For the heck of it the whole team would suit up, grab Sabers, and run into one of the squash court and play 'last man standing'. I beat him ONCE.

I would say that is a terrible list of qualities. No wonder your buds are freaking out. Who wants to be around a woman that thinks for herself much less good with a freakin' sword!

MD Eastern Shore? Yeah, I have a good friend who lives there... St. Michaels. Surrounded by that attitude.
