BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - hal - 03-01-2017 Pictures from the last couple of days at home and a trip to the river yesterday... I love it! I walk across the street, go down a couple of houses and enter the vacant lot that has been converted to a tiny private park (I have permission). At the back of the lot is Arcade creek... and a bunch of wood ducks - I have a colony of wood ducks living about 200 yards from my front door :-) ![]() I just love the local oaks, but I can't ever seem to capture the beauty that I see - this is an exception. I love this shot - my favorite oak shot ever. This is the vacant lot... ![]() This one aint bad ![]() At the river - this is a canada goose 'mix' - I've read that geese that don't migrate tend to interbreed and there seems to be quite a bit of that around here... ![]() First shot of my nemesis this year ![]() An illustration of the high water mark - that's not a nest on the left = that's debris caught in the flood waters. That's about 10' higher than the current water level (which is already the highest I've seen here ). ![]() I had a nice session with a snowy egret - first of the year... ![]() ![]() Some geese flew by as I was shooting the egret... ![]() Between me and those two women USED to be a service road, but the water came up and wiped it out ![]() Now... this morning in the back yard - I've seen all kinds of birds back here including a Sharp-shinned hawk and a full grown egret. Really didn't think anything would surprise me, but this... is a surprise: a red eared slider in my back yard - WTF?? ![]() ![]() I had to grab the neighbors and tell them... they came out with their parrots... Lola is the latest arrival... ![]() ![]() ...and Coco & Genghis ![]() Re: BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - DP - 03-01-2017 Are the parrots in an enclosure? Lots of those guys loose in the Keys and Miami. And you are a few up on me-I can't get that close to Kingfishers even with my SX50. Re: BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - hal - 03-01-2017 The parrots as you see them are out and free (only under supervision) - clipped wings, of course. Re: BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - freeradical - 03-01-2017 Tropical birds have such crazy saturated colors. We probably don't have pigments that can come close to duplicating that, especially light fast ones. Re: BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - DinerDave - 03-01-2017 Superb pics as usual Dave Re: BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - DeusxMac - 03-01-2017 DP wrote: San Francisco's famous (wild) Green Parrots... ![]() Re: BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - Pam - 03-01-2017 Enjoyed the picts as always! Re: BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - blooz - 03-02-2017 Also liking the oak shot. Re: BIG picture thread - another backyard surprise + the river after major high water - Racer X - 03-02-2017 Awesome! I really love some of the loud and vibrant colors of many of our wild game birds here in the states. Lots of the ducks, pheasants and even sometimes variations of turkeys. |
