Head to head crash: 1998 Corolla is flattened by the 2015 model - btfc - 05-17-2017 ' it’s sometimes hard to see real concrete evidence of that fact unless you’ve been in a serious accident yourself — or, even better, an accident in both the 1990s and another one today. Thankfully, this fantastic video showcasing a crash between a 1998 Toyota Corolla and a 2015 Corolla makes the safety advances in car technology abundantly clear, without you needing to risk your own neck. Re: Head to head crash: 1998 Corolla is flattened by the 2015 model - Ombligo - 05-17-2017 Amazing difference. I still have a hard time considering a 98 to be that old, but it is going on 20 years. I guess that is age denial. I was in a 40mph head-on crash in 1979 between my 77 Corolla and a land yacht of the time (can't recall what the other car was exactly). that I walked away is something I marvel at today. Re: Head to head crash: 1998 Corolla is flattened by the 2015 model - Filliam H. Muffman - 05-17-2017 In the ANCAP test, the 1998 car didn't have an airbag. I guess Australia didn't require airbags back then, or are they predicting an airbag that old won't work? Our 1992 Volvo has a driver side airbag, and a 1996 Nissan Sentra that I once owned had driver and passenger air bags, and I experienced them deploying in 1997. Re: Head to head crash: 1998 Corolla is flattened by the 2015 model - Buzz - 05-17-2017 My mum's last car was a 1990's something Corolla. Thankfully she stopped driving in early 2002, otherwise she likely could have ended up like the loser in that video (though hers did have an airbag). Amazing how much progress they seem to have made in terms of driver safety, at least from a manufacturing POV. Now, if we could just get lousy drivers off the road, driving would be even that much safer still. == Re: Head to head crash: 1998 Corolla is flattened by the 2015 model - Z - 05-17-2017 So you're saying my 1966 Volvo might not be the safest car on the road? ![]() Re: Head to head crash: 1998 Corolla is flattened by the 2015 model - Filliam H.
