Melania Trump made a surprise visit Thursday to a detention center near the southern border and said she wants to help reunite kids who have been ripped from their parents with their families.
The First Lady met with officials at a children’s detention center in McAllen, Texas — a day after her husband reversed course and signed an executive order ending his own administration’s policy separating immigrant families who cross the border illegally.
“I'm here to learn about the facility and I know you house children on a long-term basis,” the First Lady said before she toured a facility holding about 55 kids. “I’d like to ask you how I can help these children to reunite with their families as quickly as possible.”
Melania Trump decided she wanted to make the trip on Tuesday, according to spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham who said the First Lady’s “goals are to thank law enforcement and social services providers for their hard work, lend support and hear more on how the administration can build upon the already existing efforts to reunite children with their families.”
The President did not send the First Lady, she made the decision on her own, her spokeswoman said. (Yeah, right)

I'm actually willing to see if she follows through on what she is implying she will do. I hope she makes a large positive difference in the lives of the migrants who are caught up in a terrible immigration-prison industrial complex - especially the children. She can probably push this pretty far if she puts her mind to it. I hope she finds the integrity to do so.

Well, she can certainly sympathize with them, having received a so-called "Einstein visa" citizenship, citing her "extraordinary ability" and "sustained national and international acclaim".
(NPR says "the government cites Pulitzer, Oscar, and Olympic winners as examples - as well as respected academic researchers and multinational executives." Melania was a model...and "not a top international one" notes NPR, dryly.)
Perhaps she can sympathize with those unwashed hordes attempting "chain migration", as "becoming a citizen in 2006 gave her the right to sponsor her parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, who are now in the US and in the process of applying for citizenship." again per NPR.

Reached for comment Thursday, Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for the first lady, told TPM: “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe.”
Of course not, the message was really quite clear. ANYTHING ELSE would have been better.
