First Capitol riot defendant to go on trial guilty on all counts - steve... - 03-08-2022

CNN — A jury in Washington, DC, on Tuesday found January 6 rioter Guy Reffitt guilty of all five charges he faced related to the US Capitol attack, in the pivotal outcome of the first federal trial related to the riot.

Reffitt was charged with five counts – wanting to obstruct the congressional certification of the 2020 presidential election, transporting guns into DC, carrying a Smith & Wesson handgun onto the restricted grounds of the Capitol, interfering with Capitol Police protecting the Upper West Terrace and obstructing justice by threatening his son and daughter when he returned to Texas.

The jury of six men and six women in DC’s federal court deliberated for just under 4 hours Tuesday.

This is even better news than DinerDave paying off his solar loan!

1) wanting to obstruct the congressional certification of the 2020 presidential election

2) transporting guns into DC

3) carrying a Smith & Wesson handgun onto the restricted grounds of the Capitol

4) interfering with Capitol Police protecting the Upper West Terrace

5) obstructing justice by threatening his son and daughter when he returned to Texas.

All were charged as felonies, so I hope he serves some real time.

Reffitt's wife urges alleged rioters not to take pleas

The CNN link above is good reading.

I hope most if not all of the ~500 insurrectionists aren't offered plea deals.

Already over 220 have pleaded/pled guilty and most to misdemeanors.

If and when the defense counsel ask for a deal, I would hope the reply is 'No, thank you'.

That isn't likely to be the case as trials are expensive, but I just don't want to see several charges dropped to one or two lighter charged as misdemeanors with lighter sentencing.

Basically, I want to see every insurrectionist serve an absolute minimum of a year and a day, no early release to reduce that, if at all possible.

While I'm dreaming, I'd also like to see all of the legislators who conspired to impersonate electoral representatives and subvert the election certification, convicted of felonies.

And those a FEDERAL felonies AFAIK.

What I find fascinating, is that the Revolutionaries who founded our country knew that an armed revolt that failed would mean death.

Those boneheads in DC most assuredly had no idea that the consequences would be real if they failed. Why aren't they more serious?

Why aren't they more serious?

I take it they were coddled by someone equally unserious about the claim being made. They were “useful idiots” for the crew that went back to their hotels, left town, or sat and watched it all on TV in the White House.

I meant the charges. Real charges. Sedition and treason? ADW?

If you break into a military base with a weapon, the charges will be BAD. Why is any of this less serious?
