I won a trip, now I need advice! - Stephanie - 05-22-2007 I won a radio contest this morning - a trip for 2 to Las Vegas to see the Police on June 15th. This is great & I've never won anything before, so I'm pretty happy...BUT... It sort of conflicts with a trip I'm planning to see Duran Duran in NYC on June 17th. Here's my dilemma, I'm pretty sure I'll be flying Southwest airlines because of the contest. Southwest only flies in to Islip and La Guardia. The show I'm going to is at the Hammerstein Ballroom on West 34th Street & we'll probably be staying somewhere close by. My friend is convinced that neither airport would be best. She wants me to fly into JFK. So, given these facts, what airport should I fly into? I'm looking for what would be easiest for public transportation to get to our hotel. Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - jimbrady - 05-22-2007 LaGuardia is closer to midtown than JFK. The difference is irrelevant. Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - MacMagus - 05-22-2007 Islip? Seriously? Unless you're staying on Long Island, why even consider Islip? Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - Stephanie - 05-22-2007 thanks jimbrady. MacMagus, no not really considering it - Islip is the only other one in the area that Southwest services. I was more interested in whether La Guardia was really as bad an idea as my friend was making it out to be. Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - jimbrady - 05-22-2007 Depending on when you fly in, either JFK or LAG can be a very quick trip or a long one in to town. I think JFK has a slightly more "convenient" access to mass transit (cab fare is way worth it), but I've really always considered the two airports essentially interchangeable. Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - MacMagus - 05-22-2007 > I've really always considered the two airports essentially interchangeable. Pretty much. Except JFK is fugly. > She wants me to fly into JFK. Is your friend traveling with you? Or is this friend meeting you in NY? At the airport? If your friend is picking you up or dropping you off, I suggest going with the one that your friend feels most comfortable with. Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - Stephanie - 05-22-2007 I'm meeting her at the hotel. So, pretty much, I'm fending for myself. So, once at La Guardia, take a taxi? How much should I expect that to cost, roughly? Thanks again btw. Sorry if my initial post wasn't all that clear. I've been in a daze all day. Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - pRON aHOLIC - 05-22-2007 Police? Will Duran Duran be jealous of split time? Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - Racer X - 05-22-2007 yeah, but Sting can perform for hours and hours. Re: I won a trip, now I need advice! - MacMagus - 05-22-2007 > So, once at La Guardia, take a taxi? How much should I expect that to cost, roughly? Dunno. It's been many years since I took a cab into town from either airport. You might want to consider a limo. The difference in price is often minuscule, but the comfort and the absence of waiting in line for a cab is soooo worth it after a long trip. You should be able to call a cab company to check the rough fare. |
