why so SLOW? - bazookaman - 09-28-2007 My first mac (a quadra 650) took forever to boot up and forever to launch an app. But quitting or shutting down? Quite speedy. This day and age, i am running a dual 2.6 MacPro And while InDesign(for example) launches lickity split. It take 67 seconds to quit! Over a minute! Just about all my apps take at least 2 or 3 times longer to quit than launch. Even the machine boots up in almost no time. But shutting down...it just churns and churns and churns. I'm guess its virtual memory? The hard disk seems to work overtime whenever I shut anything down. Yeppers, doing a lot of stuff on quitting an app. Lots, and lots of temp files. "Shutting Down"?!?! What the heck is that? BGnR Re: why so SLOW? - Paul F. - 09-28-2007 Dude... I've heard that some folks actually turn their computers OFF.... I'm not sure I believe that, but I think that's what he means by "Shutting Down". I mean, really.. why would you turn it OFF?!? (bury an egg in hot sand for a few weeks, dig it up and eat it...). There's no accounting for what some folks'll do. Re: why so SLOW? - BigGuynRusty - 09-28-2007 [quote Paul F.]Seriously.... It is getting close to Halloween!! Re: why so SLOW? - Sam3 - 09-28-2007 Some call it 'being green' or 'saving electricity' or 'keeping utility costs down'. Re: why so SLOW? - bazookaman - 09-28-2007 I shut it down over the weekend every now and then. Its my office computer. I figure it helps clear out all the MS junk that accumulates from running Office.
