Just pulled the trigger on a MBP - tahoedrew - 10-17-2008

Wow! After sweating it out between a 2.4GHz and 2.5GHz (Early 2008 model) I finally pulled the trigger on a Refurbed MacBook Pro 2.4GHz from Apple.

Of course, I'm wondering if I should have gotten a new one from Amazon for $4 less, but then I would have had to wait out a rebate.

I'm offloading a Canon 28-70/2.8 L lens and the PowerBook G4 1.67GHz to pay for the laptop. It should pretty much even out the cost of the new laptop at $700/each for the lens and PowerBook. If all goes well, my business should be making enough money in a few months to pay for a new lens, though I'll go with a 17-40/4 L and a 50mm macro.

Now, I just have to wait all weekend until the thing shows up Monday or Tuesday. Of course that's probably good 'cause I'll need all that time to clean up my files and figure out how I'll transition to the MBP.

Leader! I just bought the same refurb yesterday and ordered my 4 gig ram upgrade from OWC today. Where did you see the new one on Amazon for $4 less. The one I saw was $1444.00 after the $150 rebate. The Apple refurb was $1349.00.

While I was typing this, I got my notification from Apple that my Macbook Pro has shipped with delivery by the 24th!

Congrats tahoedrew! Smile

I'm leaning that way myself given how many people here and lowendmac keeps saying that it's excellent value for the money.

I have to pay 7.375% sales tax on Apple Store purchases, thus the total of $1,448. Of course, I live 2 hours from the Apple refurb shipping center (Sacramento) so as long as they ship it today or Saturday I'll get it Monday, otherwise it'll be Tuesday.

LEADER!!!

I gave a lot of thought to that refurb 2.4ghz MBP. It's a real nice MBP with a beautiful screen and I would have gotten it but I was more interested in the size of the Macbook. For $150 more I got new technology and I'm very happy with it. It's the best Macbook ever. It's the return of the 12" Powerbook. Of course, every new Macbook is the best Macbook ever.

Again, LEADER!!!

I think it will indeed be a refurb. I suspect that Amazon and some other online retailers may get the overstocks. Also, Apple has no doubt been running down and closing out the old inventory, since they knew when the new ones would be introduced.

Me, too. Ordered the (now older model) 2.4 MPB thru Amazon, taking off another $75 saved up in rebates from using the Amazon Visa card for almost everything for a few months.
