Will this RAM work in a Mac? - Big Daddy Cool - 03-22-2006 Corsair CM764S512-100 Corsair Non XMS 512MB SDRAM specification Main Specifications Product Description Memory - 512 MB x 1 - DIMM 168-pin - SDRAM Storage Capacity 512 MB x 1 Upgrade Type Industry standard Technology SDRAM Form Factor DIMM 168-pin Supply Voltage 3.3 V Memory Speed 100 MHz ( PC100 ) Data Integrity Check ECC Lead Plating Gold CAS Latency CL3 Features 4K refresh, registered I have a few that will take it if it works: G4 Cube, eMac 700, etc. Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - Carm - 03-22-2006 Mac Tracker Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - Big Daddy Cool - 03-22-2006 CArm, I have that. From what I can see in the specs, it will work with the machines I listed. I just don't have any real world experience with Corsair memory, and want to make sure I'm not missing any specs that are wrong. Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - OWC Larry - 03-22-2006 It might - if it is built with 32x8 devices. If it has 64x4 devices - it will not. The Mac doesn't need ECC - but that gets ignored. And if it is 64x4 based - won't hurt the Mac, just won't show up. Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - Big Daddy Cool - 03-22-2006 Larry, How can I tell? Those were the only specs listed. Can I tell by looking at them? If so, what do I look for or ask the seller? This is a Craigslist deal, otherwise I'd buy from a reputable seller, like, hmm, OWC perhaps. Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - incognegro - 03-22-2006 ask the seller if he/she will give you a return option if it doesn't work. otherwise it's not worth the money, is it? Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - OWC Larry - 03-22-2006 Like incognegro noted - if they can't tell you and unless they give you a good return option that you can trust for, the risk may outweigh the possible savings. Could get part numbers off the actual devices the module was built with and search on google. If it is an OEM part, may or may not get a hit though. Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - Big Daddy Cool - 03-22-2006 This is what the seller can tell me: Corsair CM764S512-100 64x72 168Pin Dimm/Gold VAR 101631 so is 64x72 the "NG' numbers? Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - incognegro - 03-22-2006 the 64 in the model name makes me think it might not work. is it super-cheap, like $40? you can find em (if you look) for $50-$60 used. they are $72 new. Re: Will this RAM work in a Mac? - OWC Larry - 03-22-2006 64x72 is just the total bits which is equal to 512MB 72 Bit ECC. Doesn't advise what devices on it. Might see if Google reveals a more detailed description by that p/n. It's a good deal if it works - but - if it doesn't, then it's a waste of $40 (even if that cheap). And if it fails in 3, 6, 9 months - wasted money even if it does work. Whatever the deal and the terms - just have to weigh risk/reward factoring that which is known. |
