what kind of art do you like to collect? - lazydays - 12-03-2009

I have a fair amount of prints at my house, and at work, all in nice frames. Nothing very expensive but they are nice. I'm thinking about putting together a small collection of glass artwork. Something I could display and routinely change. I'm partial to the balls of glass with things inside them like what is below. What is your favorite kind of artwork to collect?

I like paintings. I didn't realize until someone pointed it out to me that I collect paintings. I just liked them. I've picked up a few on various travels around the world.

I collect thousands of 16 to 18 inch pieces of hardwood.
No two alike.
I practice the art of turning them into red , orange and yellow flames.

I have a basement closet full of original oil and acrylic paintings all signed by the painter who painted them. Some hang on the walls. Alongside many of my own enlarged photographs .
This painter also had a ceramic studio which produced thousands and thousands of Cape Cod ceramic souvenirs.
Mostly shell-themed thingies.
I finally gave the last of the little turtle flower holders away.

If you bought ceramic souvenirs on Cape Cod in the sixties there's a good possibility I painted it or put it into the kiln.
I never want to see another one.
Even if it has the initials WB on the bottom next to the studio name.

I met a guy who imports them. He makes cash by the bucketful.

Only things I collect are political memorabilia and dust.

Biggest regret is a life sized "standee" of Ross Perot I passed up before I decided I was a "collector".
