Ugh, had my car stolen - D & C @ Work - 12-03-2009

I left my car at my office (parking garage) over Thanksgiving while I flew to Washington State only to come back and have it MIA. No, it wasn't towed. Garage has attendant M-F but not on weekends.

More to the story: the company we share the floor with had over a dozen Macintosh computers and laptops stolen (50k worth!) on Saturday. Filed a police report and the general conclusion is my car was used as the getaway vehicle. So somewhere in LA is my Toyota sitting on the street (most likely getting street sweeping tickets) gathering dust. With a little luck it will turn up in one piece. Hopefully...

I'll post when/if I get more info,
D & C @ Work

Edit: I did contact my insurance company, alas, I only have liability and uninsured motorist (1987 car, not worth full coverage).

please add the option "I'm morally superior because i bike to work"

Then another option should be added "My POS bike got stolen in front of a Lost and Found division of the PD."

Wink

I wouldn't use my 1987 Honda hatchback as a getaway car. But then there are the Dumb and Dumber of thieves.

If someone would steal my truck it would solve so many problems for me.

1987?
Maybe it just disintegrated?

Had my RX-7 and my Civic Si both stolen twice. At least the Civic was easy to steal and they only did about $500 of damage (besides value of lost components).

When I was in college, my POS Chevy Nova was stolen from a mall parking lot during Christmas break.

It turned up in an apartment building parking lot about 8 months later with practically no damage and not too many more miles than were on it when it was taken. At that point, the car belonged to the insurance co.

When we lived in LA my wife's cherry '67 VW convertible was stolen from in front of our house. Not much in the way of anti-theft features on those cars. All you need to steal one is a piece of bent wire. I think we had a "club" like device on the steering wheel but nothing a pair of bolt cutters couldn't take care of.

I installed a hidden keyed ignition kill switch on my first 87' Cressida but then realized I wasn't exactly a hot target. Still, if I felt I was leaving the car in a sketchy area it was an extra measure of security, especially since I had to disable the factory alarm system.

Of course now with my 2nd Cressida (also 87) it would probably behoove me to leave it as unencumbered as possible as any damage would likely exceed the value of the car and I would rather have it disappear than see it sitting right where I left it with the windows smashed.
