iPad online use approaches Android, BlackBerry - macphanatic - 04-15-2010
Interesting article on Computerworld. If the iPad missed the mark, it raises questions about Android and RIM. The author doesn't point out the these devices can access the web via cellular while the iPad can't. I wonder what the percentage will look like once the iPad 3G comes out.

I've been waiting for an improvement in the MBP13 as I've been wanting a unibody for some time now. That new graphics chipset would have been enough for me to order one the day it came out.
After using the 'Pad since the 3rd, I've been using my BMB less and less.
It's so darn handy, a high online presence doesn't surprise me.

I left my MBP home yesterday in favor of the iPad. For the most part, I didn't miss it.
Two things:
1. I had to update a website quickly, and I didn't have anything on the iPad that would easily let me FTP and edit a file. I had to do it via Remote Desktop to my PC, which was painful.
2. I still would need my iPad to give Keynote presentations. Without some sort of video out option, that will always be the weak-link for me.
Other than that, it has been terrific.

Would it be worth $10 alleviate future pain?
FTP on the Go
Never used it/not an endorsement, there may be better alternatives, YMMV and so on.

What the... it supports FTPS but not SFTP? FTPS is for Windows servers, SFTP is for anything using SSH.

Any web developer worth his salt these days should know his/her way around the command line, whether your weapon of choice be vi or emacs.
Also, there have been faint rumors of an iPad version of TextWrangler/BBEdit. Probably others, I'll bet.

True, but it doesn't mean it's as easy as something like BBEdit. Plus I can't imagine writing out a large text file via SSH with the potential packet loss issues on a mobile device.
