Re: The Fix List - Please Read before Posting - N-OS X-tasy! - 09-18-2008 Does AAPL stock price info really need to be centered in the page header? Top of the page would look much better if this were placed to the left of the Deals/News/Forums links at the top right of the page, the search field were brought down to the same level as the Tips and Deals -- Friendly Political Ranting link, and the excess white space excised from the page. The main page for me is pretty small... not impossible to read, maybe, but definitely hard on the eyes. The size used for the posters names is tiny. The size on this page is great, and resembles to me very closely the old forum. The size of what I'm typing right now is also tiny. I could care less about "nice, tight formatting", I care about legibility, but agreed that the sizing on the old forum was fine. Also -- would it help if I posted a screenshot or two? I'm not making this up, and I have perfect vision with eyeglasses. Someone else with Camino 1.6.3 will verify. You were actually quoting me GGD "new" shows up on thread that you have never read as well as threads that you have read, so seeing "new" doesn't tell you that it's a thread that you've read before. About the only way to tell is to look at the number of "new" posts and compare it to the total number of posts for that thread to see if you have read it. That is not something that can be easily done by glancing at a page of thread subjects. My apologies. I was getting a bit confused trying to weed out the parts I didn't want quoted above my post. I do understand that "new" shows up on threads I haven't read as well as those I have. That's what makes the color change so valuable. If the color of a thread I've been following stays a different color, I can tell at a quick glance if there are any new messages since I last looked at it. When all titles revert to the same color after I leave the site and come back, I have to sit here and read the titles again to find the one(s) I might be looking for. That's how it had been, and I consider it a much more important feature than quibbling over font size or smileys. Yes, I'm hungry. And cranky. So I'm leaving now to meet a friend for dinner. I'd say something like "and I expect this to be fixed when I get back!", but I know that's unreasonable. Tomorrow is another day, and I'm a hopeful person. I would insert a smiley so you know I'm just kinda putting you guys on, but... It's a sensitive subject right now, so I'll pass. Both of my images above show what it now looks like to most of us. Main text is fine, reply box text is too big. Re: The Fix List - Please Read before Posting - papercup - 09-18-2008 Camino is your problem, PeterB. That has typically looked the worst among the current browsers. Re: The Fix List - Please Read before Posting - PeterB - 09-18-2008 Yeah, but no way am I going to switch browsers specifically for this forum, and also we Camino users are a substantial proportion of the forum ... if you don't believe me, STF and you'll see, there was a poll here awhile back. Default fonts set as Times 16pt and Courier 13pt for proportional and monospace Western, respectively. All other websites but this one look fine. I don't see why we couldn't just use the same fonts, and at the same sizes, at what we had previously, which most people here agree was fine. Re: The Fix List - Please Read before Posting - papercup - 09-18-2008 So Camino for everyone! PeterB's buying!!!! Re: The Fix List - Please Read before Posting - lafinfil - 09-18-2008 The type size looks fine in Camio. I think the problem is on the users end. It appears the same size in Safari and Firefox 3 as well. I haven't tried Opera yet. ![]() Re: The Fix List - Please Read before Posting - Sam3 - 09-18-2008 I see a font size war brewing, but I agree with PeterB. Some of the display fonts are too small. Especially the sig font size and the font size above the text box that has the subject and options. I can hardly read the sigs. And in each of the nested replies the font gets smaller, after about two to three nested quotes the text is almost illegible. I think the forum title fonts also are now too small. The "Tips and Deals ---- 'Friendly' Political Ranting" gets lost amongst the other text. I find it harder to quickly find that to click on it. Not all of us are teenagers with perfect vision, or run our computers at 640x480 resolution. OK, a bit of exaggeration, but you get the point. If I remember correctly, the teeny font size and the style had some of the biggest complaints over the weekend when we were looking at the sample forum. |
