Time Machine? etc. Oh! I guess that depends on what you have on your specific computer and what you use it for. I do a full clone with SuperDuper a couple times a week and that works for my needs as my most important items are my client database and email. I haven't really explored Time Machine, but might look into it for an added layer of protection. DM Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - decay - 07-12-2010 whatever you don't want to be without if/when your hard drive dies. Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - PeterB - 07-12-2010 Yeah at the moment for my home machine I have a SD clone, AND a Time Machine backup. They serve different purposes, and I've already discovered the hard way that (for reasons I don't understand), I couldn't choose the startup disk by holding down the option key at startup ... Edit: oh, and this is also an opportunity to test UPS capabilities ... we've been having fairly routine power losses down here... Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - msienkiewicz - 07-12-2010 How about a backup of your backup? I was trying to make a copy of my Time Machine backups from my NAS but my backup backup job failed midway through with a disk error (on the backup disk, not the NAS thank goodness). Maybe I'll just stick with making clones of my main drive regularly for my offsite backups and not try to get the TM backed up... Re: PSA: Back up your computer! - OWC Jamie - 07-12-2010 Test your smoke alarm, too. It's probably been 6 months since the last test if you do it every Dec31/jan 1. :-) |
