I don't know that he'd benefit *significantly* or at all, depending on what he wants to do.

For a light user (read: light usage) I think the 3GS is a good choice, though he *might* be just as happy with the 3G. But the 3GS is noticeably faster.

And $100 is $100. Most of us (me, of course) might not care about the money, over the life of a contract. But for somebody who watches their money, $100 could buy something else.

Simply for the facetime capability alone it is well worth jumping through whatever hoops are needed to get the iPhone 4. I just had a free video call with one of my english cousins who I haven't seen in a while. We flipped between both the front and back cameras as we walked around so we could see each other's faces and environments. It was a great experience.

iPhone 4 for sure, I don't mind reading on it at all now the toe is so crisp, I don't have to zoom in as much. Battery life seems greatly improved for me and I don't have any antenna issues.
