no, but the receiver it's connected to has both. The rcvr won't down convert from HDMI, I think it'll do component to S video, which is what feeds the tellie. I'll have to ask Onkyo.

Fritz, the new one adds Netflix, but Google for all the differences. I have an old one hacked to enable 480i color output for an old TV, something that can't be done with the new one, which only has HDMI.

maybe time to retire the old 27" CRT

seems unlikely the rcvr will convert component to S upon further research.

Darn the luck!!!

You can still find the older model, but hacking isn't ideal. It does work, but what you really want is a nicer TV anyway.

I agree, get a nicer TV. A 32" LCD would look quite fetching as a replacement for your 27" (assuming you wanted something in a similar size).

I always considered those to be more coquettish, whereas a 37", 40" or 42" to be truly fetching.

37" wouldn't be that much bigger, especially if you get an LED EDGE lit LCD. Probably still eliminates plasma as a consideration. I think you need to get to 42" or so to tip your toes into plasma.

Edit: This comes from a person who's biggest TV is 23". I have a 20", two 22" TVs, and a 23". For clients, family, and friends I have purchased bigger units, but for my current abode, I make do quite happily with an army of smaller displays. My bedroom, daughter's bedroom, office, and living room. The positive side of the trade off to owning smaller TVs is that the displays don't dominate any single room. The rooms become truly multi-purpose.

27" vs 40" LCD

According to that guide, 32" is about the closet match you can get, assuming Fritz wants something of similar size.

I'd lean towards 37-42 if only for the space it needs to fit into and still be at viewing height.
We're perty close to the set downstairs. I'd guess no more than 8'.
We've got 48" space to fill at best.
