Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - NewtonMP2100 - 01-07-2011 ....I'm a Genie in that BOTTLE....gotta rub me the right way.... Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - OWC Jamie - 01-07-2011 The garbage floating around is the fault of people, not the containers. There's usually plenty Fast food cups and wrappers with those bottles, too. They don't float in tidal marshes as well, though. Bags end up further from view . Paper eventually decomposes. If it didn't there'd be tons of it under the plastic. Plastic is a wonderful disbursement packaging material being lighter than alternatives helps us to be green and energy efficient. But people have to stop being lazy f#@$ks and be responsible. It takes such an Infinitesimal effort . Bottle deposits help, but some people just don't get the purpose of that, either. Wait till they start testing things besides water. Oh wait, they're supposed to be doing that now. :-) Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - the_poochies - 01-07-2011 One of the biggest wastes of money and biggest environmental problems in the Third World is clean water. Last fall's cholera outbreak in Haiti is an example of this. Transporting bottled water to communities is insanely expensive and you are left with tens of thousands of plastic bottles everywhere. In places like Afghanistan, driving tanker trucks full of clean water to troops in the field is also expensive and dangerous. Last year my colleague did work for this company than invented a portable, solar-powered water purifier. The US military has been using them in Iraq and Afganistan and units are being delivered to remote villages to provide cheap, clean water for residents. Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - Racer X - 01-07-2011 Man, that is a way too cool system! Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - mattkime - 01-07-2011 I don't see why bottled water gets such a bad rap when any other bottled beverage uses the exact same packaging. Re: lots of it is junk - NewtonMP2100 - 01-07-2011 ....in the trunk....??? Re: OT: Some groups says they tested bottled water, lots of it is junk - olnacl - 01-07-2011 I just spent a half hour cutting, tearing and cursing the welded plastic container my new Senheiser headphones were entombed within. Fortunately I did not injure myself on the sharp edges but were a representative of Senheiser product packaging hanging around, I would have loved discussing it with him/her (possibly using the same tools). After I finally got the contents out, I could not find any recycling symbol on the plastic, so into the landfill it will have to go.
