They could buy BP for 1/3rd cash, the rest in stock....... They have to move fast though, because it is
recovering so fast, that even Shell had to decide not to, but they aren't worth as much as Apple.
Only Exxon could do it.... and they would make them saw it up into lots of parts, whereas Apple
could buy the whole thing, then just sell it off, piece by piece, and keep the sunflower farm.
Maybe a California refinery for jet fuel for Steve. They could develop the kerosene powered iMac portable.

Cringely's only real claim to street cred is that he was one of the earliest Apple employees, but that's all water under a long-ago bridge.
Still, I would love for SOME major computer-related company to consume either a media-content company such as a Hollywood studio (Sony/Columbia/whatever doesn't count, they wouldn't know what to do with a divining rod if you gave them one, and they had one) or a content delivery company, preferably a major cable company. Because the converse (Comcast/NBC) is happening and that's not gonna taste good.

I've never considered ISPs---content delivery people---computer companies any more than the phone company is.
I was thinking consumer hardware and/or consumer software companies. You know, companies who are used to tough competition and some innovation. Companies more directly answerable to customers.

Why the hell didn't AOL create a computer device that was nothing but an AOL delivery system? When they were king of the internet, I was expecting to hear about this computer thingy at any moment. Never happened.
If they sold the things at cost and bundled a year of AOL with them, they would have had 1/2 of the country under their wing...
