Problem is when I want to buy a 15" MBP that doesnt cost $1800.
Theres a need for a $1300 15" Mabook.
But all Macs could easily do with a $200 (mini should be $499) - $700 (MP) price drop.
Theres no need to have a $6 Billion profit every quarter.

jdc nailed it. My eyes are poor and I need the larger screen with my laptop but I do not need blazing performance. So a macbook with a 15" option would be perfect for me.
Btw, I'm typing this on a windows laptop that is at least four years old. It isn't my favorite but it can do email and light web browsing.

Apple need not make larger screens with lower rez.
That's what cheap PC 15" laptops are.
Apple would dilute the brand by cutting corners to make prices lower and that six billion would be cut to 1.5Bn in a heartbeat because part of the appeal of owning Macs is the status it confers on the owner for having paid more than "commodity" pricing.
Sure the quality and the software are better, but there is segment of the Mac buying public who cares most of all about their products as status symbols.

Power Mac 4400. Piece of crap. That was Apple trying to go the mainstream cheap PC route.

I know people who would be happy with a 15" MBP, even as currently priced, but they need an ExpressCard for various reasons. Have to go up to a 17" MBP to get the expansion. That's why I have a 17", I needed faster data access for a 4 month long project, but still wanted some measure of portability (no Mac Pro for me unfortunately).

On a Mac you can zoom into the entire interface by holding control and then scrolling up, reverse the zoom by holding control and scrolling down. Might be helpful next time you are on your Mac (assuming you also own a Mac).

Let me re-phrase.
They could *probably* still make $6B if they lowered their prices by the $200-700 margin.
They might even make more $$$.
They only sold 4 million macs last quarter, compared to the 16.5 M iPhones and 7.3 M iPads (not counting Touches or iPods) -- the sales of actual macs do not make up that entire $6B profit.
so reducing prices on macs *might* reduce the profit a small percentage... but not the whole thing -- and since macs are now slightly cheaper, the affordability becomes less of an issue with = more people buying = made up profit.
