My, my; such smugness here today.

An ironic remark.

Re: Alex Kirst killed - Paul F. - 01-20-2011

I don't know who he is... and I don't give enough of a crap who he is to click a link that has no information in the post about who he is, or why I should care, to click the link and waste my time. Since we're on the subject; if you care enough to post a link, how about a few words of description about what the link goes to, and why we might be interested?

Now.. that said; doesn't matter who he was, I lament his passing.. and wish a slow and excruciating bodily injury when he "resists arrest" to the murdering coward driver - followed by a fair and impartial trial with a jury of his peers, followed by a nice long prison sentence in some place really unpleasant.

Re: Alex Kirst killed - Uncle Wig - 01-20-2011

First, I apologize to DP for mucking up his thread about the passing of Alex Kirst.

My initial reply was in response to freeradical's post in particular, and to an obnoxious forum behavior in general. When somebody posts about the passing of a person who is well-known to many but not all, someone usually feels the need to reply with a "I don't know who that is" post. Which says, essentially, "If that person were important, I'd know who they are."

There have been many posts on this forum about people who I'm unfamiliar with. If I don't know who they are, and I'm curious, I look them up. Then I know. Sometimes I learn about someone remarkable. If I'm not curious I either do not click on the thread to begin with, or I let it go without the "I don't know who they are therefore they are insignificant" sentiment.

it wasn't a name i recognized, either. i don't think most of us here would.

i am one who knows a lot of musicians' names, too, just from being a big fan of music in general.

a brief summary or note about who he was would have been helpful.

http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/News/alex-kirst-0120-2011/

Alex Kirst, a former drummer for Iggy Pop, has been killed in a hit-and-run accident in Cathedral City, California, according to The Desert Sun newspaper. Kirst was 47.

Reports indicate that the drummer was hit by a white truck while he was out walking on January 13. Kirst’s brother Wiley, who played guitar for Pop, said Alex “just went to the store to get a pack of cigarettes,” before he was killed.

Kirst played on two of Pop’s recent solo albums, 2001’s Beat ’Em Up and 2003’s Skull Ring. He was also a member of alt-rockers The Nymphs from 1985-92.

I didn't, but I clicked on the thoughtfully provided link and learned something. That precluded me from making a stupid comment.

I Agree

That's the most surprising thing I've read here in a long time.

I didn't know the link started with an ad-it didn't when I first clicked on it.

No worries. It certainly did go off on a tangent...

Re: Alex Kirst killed - Silencio - 01-20-2011

It's always good form to post a couple of brief lines about who the deceased is, along with the link to the article about their passing.

I would have posted a similar obituary post last Friday for Trish Keenan, lead singer for the English experimental pop band Broadcast, who tragically passed away from complications from H1N1 at 42, but I was pretty sure maybe only two or three other forum readers would have heard of her or her band.

RIP Alex and RIP Trish. Both gone way too soon.

Death caused by automobile is one of-if not THE-most useless ways to die.
