I agree with that. I got nailed at work because I browsed Apple's website and was assaulted with the commercial without me clicking on anything yet.

I think they are great.
The average consumer already knows that Apple computers look prettier. It's kind of silly to keep showing the fruity iMac type of commercials that show off the great industrial design of the Macintosh.
These new commercials focus on the benefits the average user gets by using a Macintosh in a friendly, straight forward manner. Everyone I know who has seen them has thought they were great.
I do agree that Apple is pretty lame for force feeding the ads down our throught on the splash page of their site. Blah.

I think that you are missing the big picture... Couldn't agree with ztirffritz more!
...AND the safety RESTORE feature is great. This gives me the impression you have had to use this 'feature' more than once. Really sad commentary that an OS developer has gone this route in an attempt to correct what is, in reality, a defect in their product.
Using a M$ OS is a crap shoot at best. You're purchasing a product from a company that makes NO HARDWARE PLATFORM to run it on. They do not write the code for the BIOS or most of the supporting hardware. Yet, M$ seems to take the attitude that 'we'll write this code, the hardware will just have to catch up'! Might explain why Windows still contains base hardware modules written in 8-bit assembler code.
Linux and other open source projects, not driven by greed but by innovation, have continously proven M$ wrong. A perfect example is nVidia's "Unified Linux Driver" package.

I think Mike hit the nail on the head. The ads and content are very good, considering the target audience.
The fact that they jump in your face is annoying, but that is not a problem with the ad itself, but a bad decision on Apple's part as to presentation.

Speaking to the choir, here.
I've only seen one, about apps. included. iTunes for everyone, but Mac gets iLife.
My impression: Apple Ad Lite. just enough.
