Re: R'Oil Wedding - rankandfile - 04-28-2011

The President may get blamed for oil prices; however, the REASON they have risen is because of supply and demand pressures from the economies of the emerging nations.

China's economy was one-third the size of ours at the beginning of 2001. The IMF projects China's economy will exceed ours in less than five more years.

Oil prices have also been affected by Saudi Arabia's production cuts. The Saudis say the market is "oversupplied". Riiiight.

Hal, from time time my arch enemies agree with me because I speak my mind. The other irony is that at the same time that Obama is saying additional drilling and exploration won't help, he is asking Saudi Arabia to increase production while he himself is restricting exploration here.

Even a blind squirrel like you will find an acorn every once in awhile.

You obviously don't know the difference between an in production well and exploratory drilling (one is short term, the other long term). Long term requires a strategic solution to energy needs...fossil fuels don't provide that.

Despite all the contrary political rhetoric, there are more rigs out there producing and/or exploring since 2008.

Some huge tracts of the western gulf might be lease-auctioned by the end of the year .

Re: R'Oil Wedding - (vikm) - 04-28-2011

The number blaming Big Oil/Republicans is much higher if, like me you figure they are generally one in the same.

Natural gas, not skyrocketing.
Electricity, not skyrocketing.

Oil, skyrocketing, but none of the policies that Obama was discussing in the context of that quote have been substantively implemented, as far as I know.

However, i did have leftover spaghetti for lunch on Obama's Inauguration day, so I guess I will accept the blame. Sorry about that.

It hasn't been because of lack of trying. He loves high energy prices to run around and sell his mercury bulbs.
