I'm still limping by on a 5 mb DSL connection. FIOS or U-verse cannot get here quick enough.

I locked it in for 2 years. Saving over $100 a month compared to comcast.

Good for you. Sometimes I feel like I should cancel service and then sign up again to get the better rates, after waiting a year or whatever it takes to qualify. I could just bounce back between Comcast and Verizon forever.

I wish I got those speeds. I don't even get anything close to that when I'm camping out in a datacenter.

Don't hold your breath for FiOS. A Verizon engineer I spoke with some time ago indicated that the company had stopped building out its fiber infrastructure and was concentrating on increasing its FiOS customer base in those areas already cabled for FiOS. Not long after he told me this the company confirmed it with a press release.

I hate you all...

(Hughes.net at home tops out at about .5Mbs, The fractional T1 here at work gives me about .8Mbs)

That according to the Verizon rep that called soliciting one day.

I can have 3G that sometimes works.

:-(

FIOS is available all around my little town, but I suspect that my community is "on the wrong side of the tracks" to ever make it viable where I live.

My Verizon DSL generally is 10/1 mbps download/upload speeds, but on WiFi, my MacMini crawls to 10% of that speed.

I'm gonna try powerline ethernet and see how that works.

I'm impressed with that 10ms ping time to speedtest.net.

It 0.3ms to my router over ethernet and if I ping my first hop to the internet, it's 11ms.

43Mbps actual throughput is better than what I got transferring files over 10Mb ethernet connections and SCSI drives.

4 year FiOS customer here. Over the weekend I was plugging in a USB plug to the back of my iMac and was shocked to see the ethernet cord unplugged. LOL I've been web surfing at home for who knows how long over WiFi and i didn't even notice a slowdown in speed. FiOS is THAT fast. Worth every penny Big Grin
