Yup...mine's over 60 years old and has done the NYT crossword for at least 40 of 'em.

Mine is a Pentel P209, 0.9mm lead. I have several around the house.

Yup, there's nothing like it except maybe Speedball pen nibs & nib holders.

yup - still the same 0.5mm Pentel "Quicker Clicker" I've had since around 1981-1982, and the same leads I bought in bulk from Price Club sometime in the mid-1980s when I was a college student - used almost daily...

It looks identical to this one:

I just bought a Buy.com Deal on some Paper Mate® Eraser.max™ Erasable Ink Pen, Medium Point, 1.0 mm pens for Mavis to use on her daily crossword puzzles. (12 for $7.69 w/ tax & shipping)

They seem to be a better choice than the mechanical pencils she was using because what you write is much easier to see. What you write stays erasable for long enough to be useful.

I hated the mechanical pencils because it was really difficult to read what was written on newsprint.

Another "quicker clicker" user here... Have several in my desk drawer. I think my oldest dates back to the early nineties.

In college I used 0.3mm Pentels. As I aged, I moved back up to 0.5mm, then 0.7mm.

Now I stick with a plain #2 yellow pencil. Why ?

Because I can stick it behind my ear and it's light enough to stay there. I am an engineer, but I don't wear a pocket protector and I got tired of the mechanical pencil sticking holes in my shirt pockets.

mechanical pencils are in the drawers
#2 are on the desktop(s) in coffee cups
