Windshields are practically thought of as "consumables" these days, like tires or laptop batteries. Sad We broke a windshield on our car a couple of years ago, and I remember being famously blamed for it on the other forum. Even this "new" windshield has a couple of little pits from pebbles getting kicked up off the road. Grrrr...

Hey, my windshield got broken when "The Club" whacked into it while my wife was taking it off. Sh*t happens.

"Something hit the windshield"

Nationwide off-loads all the glass coverage to Safelite, so you actually talk to Safelite when you call.

"Something hit the windshield" ... ah-ha.

So Safelite is monopolyzing the windshield market?

No, Nationwide just has a contract with safelite, and safelite handles all the basic paperwork. If you call nationwide and hit #3 or whatever, you get transfered straight to safelite's national call center. Nationwide saves money as they don't have to have a portion of their call center dedicated to glass coverage, and they have minimal paperwork to handle for the claim, as safelite processes it for them. I imagine they get weekly or monthly summaries.

Hey, "Something hit my windshield" was accepted as the reason, and I didn't need to elaborate for the claim.
