Re: I dumped Safari! - IronMac - 09-03-2011 I restarted my MBP 1 hr 25 mins ago according to iStat. Safari is now using 1.11 GB of real mem and 1.11 GB of virtual memory. 4 windows open with approximately 50 tabs. Safari 5.0.5, OS X 10.6.8. I tried to change back to the previous version by moving a copy of 5.0.5 from a backup to my active Applications Folder. It worked… and it didn't. There were some problems, which I understand were due to the 5.1 webkit, which I was told wouldn't go away just because I brought back a copy of the previous Safari version. I've have managed to get 5.0.5 working pretty consistently, but every so often my settings revert to the defaults and there are other glitches that didn't occur before the 5.1 update. ![]() As far as I can tell, the only way I can go back to 5.0.5 is to reinstall the older version. I've been trying to find a way to install a fresh freestanding version of 5.0.5, but no luck, so far. Does anyone know if there's a Safari 5.0.5 installer available somewhere? There is a 5.0.6 installer available, but it only works with Leopard. It wouldn't install to Snow Leopard when I tried it. Do I have to go all the way back and reinstall Leopard and then update to Snow Leopard in order to get back to the older version of Safari or is there a shortcut? Does anyone have an answer? Re: I dumped Safari! - decocritter - 09-03-2011 Safari used to be good, but it is not now. Same with Firefox. Google Chrome is fast, but not as user friendly Re: I dumped Safari! - sekker - 09-03-2011 I think I'll stick with Safari 5.0.5 and 10.6.7 - seems to be fine. Re: I dumped Safari! - Mr645 - 09-03-2011 I use Safari at home, no real issues other then it plays video slowly, like You Tube. (G5 dual 2.5) FireFox plays them much better. At work I use Camino Re: I dumped Safari! - Drew - 09-03-2011 decocritter wrote: What do you mean by not as user friendly? Re: I dumped Safari! - decocritter - 09-03-2011 Not as many little fun plug ins and such. After using Safari for so long I like the way it's lay out. But Google Chrome is super fast on my computer for netflix etc I don't like that is signs me out of gmail all the time. To be fair, I have not given it a lot of time. Re: I dumped Safari! - decocritter - 09-03-2011 I just noticed they have added quite a few extensions. My nephew is a Graphic Artist and Web Designer and turned me onto Chrome with my MacBook and the iMac and I haven't looked back. Re: I dumped Safari! - haikuman - 09-03-2011 Since I downloafed and reloaded the Combo Update ...
