Go for it. If you're worried the beans will go stale in the hopper, just put in enough for that day's brew and keep the rest sealed up. A burr grinder does make a bigger difference than you'd expect.

This is the one I have. I like it a lot:

BTW, I believe in keeping roasted beans sealed up, but not in the freezer or fridge. I've heard harmful moisture will condense on the beans when you take them out. It makes sense.

not sure about the fluctuating temps but Starbucks definitely teaches not to put beans that are in and open/close container in the fridge or freezer because of moisture denigration.

I wouldn't take seriously anything Starbuck's says about coffee!

different strokes for different folks.

first 3 google hits on storing coffee. didn't feel a need to look further. none are from Starbucks.

note that one says if one must freeze beans wrap tightly and don't go in and out.

Hmm. I'll keep my coffee out of the freezer next time and see if I notice a difference. But Starbuck's is still Satan.

not sure about the fluctuating temps

Condensation can form from the fluctuating temperatures between the fridge and the counter.
