You can diminish the level, but not completely eliminate it. You might be fine during cooler weather, and the next hot summer day you will smell it again. There are some deodorizers that will mask it for a while. That might be good enough for you, but not for many people.

So very true! A couple years ago, my boyfriend bought a used truck while I was at work. He called me before he bought it, and I grilled him on the condition, etc. I then suggested he wait until the weekend when I could go see it too. He ended up saying, "don't you trust my judgment?"

So after he said that, I said, "Fine, it's your money."

When I got home that night and went to see his new truck, I was immediately overwhelmed by the smoke smell. I asked him how on earth he could buy that when he knew how sensitive I am to cigarette smoke. His response was that he thought he could get rid of the smell.

He tried all sorts of things (some of which I found on previous threads here). Most of the time it's not too noticeable, but yeah...on hot days, it's still there.

I really don't think it's worth the time and effort to buy a smoker's car and then try to get rid of the smoke smell.

Next time at least include the model year and the milage of the car, when asking a value question. A little info goes a long way . . . kinda like cig smoke . . .

I got the same amount of info from the auntie. We were to have a follow-up phone conversation sometimes this week.

bought a cig-odor car this past spring. now, about 8 months later, I don't really notice it. my car was not that bad, maybe a 5 out of a 10 score, so if it's heavy smoke that is different.

the PO sprayed Febreze or some crap like that which, with the odor, is almost worse.
