ppffftt.....go straight to 10.7. the problems are over emphasized (well, as long as you don't have ppc apps)

Spend $20 or less and buy a DVD drive.

I am going to have to upgrade as well, now at 10.4.8. This is necessary because I bought an HP printer to be able to print wirelessly from computer and iPhone, but even though it works fine plugged into the USB, can get it to recognize wireless. Further and tiresome review of instructions shows that I have to have 10.6. Anyone know if I should just skip on up to latest and will I have luck? Running a macbook (intel).

You had better check to see how many PPC programs are on that machine and will be made non-functional by going to Lion. You can find this out by going to "About this Mac" and then to "More Info". Then click on Software/Applications. Under "Kind", any that are PowerPC or Classic won't work under Lion. You'd have to upgrade them or you're sol. LyleH
