Sounds cooler! Re: am I too old to learn to swim...? - JoeM - 03-15-2012 It's on my list of things to do and I'm way past 40. Where I grew up, "going swimming" meant opening up the fire hydrant. ![]() Go for it! Re: am I too old to learn to swim...? - OWC Jamie - 03-15-2012 Run, Forrest. Run ! Swim, Space-Time. Swim ! ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuUDh_mRDtI&feature=endscreen Oopsie, that was supposed to be Ten Easy Lessons Re: am I too old to learn to swim...? - Filliam H. Muffman - 03-15-2012 I took swimming lessons summers through ages 9 to 11 but never really learned how to relax my body so that it had low resistance. I got a little better when I took snorkeling lessons. Re: am I too old to learn to swim...? - $tevie - 03-15-2012 At this point I think my response is probably not needed, but I have a friend who took lessons who was older than you are. She did very well. Re: am I too old to learn to swim...? - Lizabeth - 03-15-2012 You're never too old to learn to swim! Go for it... I used to teach swimming at the local pond and the adult class was the easiest to teach because they were highly motivated (unlike the kids who "had to") Most of them were moms that wanted to keep up with the kids. It does help to have an instructor that's used to teaching adults - different way of learning than kids plus there are the fears we have as adults that you don't have as a kid. Plus it's a great way to stay fit without pounding any joints. Re: am I too old to learn to swim...? - rz - 03-15-2012 I took swim lessons as a kid, was even on the swim team for a short while. I am a certified SCUBA diver with almost 70 dives, and I snorkel frequently. But my freestyle swimming sucks. I like to stroke br... uh, I mean I like the breast stroke though. When I swim at the Y, I usually do the breast stroke. I'm a lot slower than all the other swimmers, but I can do it continuously for about 45 minutes without having to stop every few laps. If I do freestyle, I have to stop after 2 or 3 laps to catch my breath. I say go for it. I see people swimming at the Y who are in their 70s and 80s. It's great exercise.
