Re: What's the deal now? no install disks with new computer? - IronMac - 06-16-2012 Didn't we complain about this sort of thing with Windows machines years ago? Re: What's the deal now? no install disks with new computer? - WHiiP - 06-16-2012 WE know, Suzanne . . . the PC is SO much easier . . . :villagers: You need to stay current, NO MATTER what OS you choose. YOU don't stay current, YOU don't read these forums to see what is happening in the Mac world, YOU only post when you run into a problem, which, IF you had stayed current, would NOT be a problem. The LION scenario has been hashed and re-hashed (NO pun intended) since before LION was released. KEEP up! You can do it if you try! Sending Forum love your way . . . :patriot: Re: What's the deal now? no install disks with new computer? - richorlin - 06-16-2012 jdc wrote: Link? I loved writing little programs, I have had many complaints over the years with the OS on a PC. Now I hate the new tool bars MSFT has. Bought a neew HP and gave it away because I hated their new "look" which was just arranging the same chairs on the deck. No reason. Re: What's the deal now? no install disks with new computer? - samintx - 06-17-2012 well, I have many things going in my life, Whiip. I don't spending getting information I don't need or will forget by the time I need it. I sorta thought that was what the FORUM was for....to answer questions...if it isn't then please pardon me. AND...for your information I'm not using my PCs anymore. But because I deal with other people/organizations on computers the PC is of great benefit to me and necessary. And I am not a snob about PCs OR macs. Any comments about its possibilities. The author did it and seems to work. Re: What's the deal now? no install disks with new computer? - ka jowct - 06-17-2012 If you don't want to do it yourself, you can buy an Apple thumb drive. Re: What's the deal now? no install disks with new computer? - Cellocorman - 06-17-2012 I thought I would toss out there that the software can be reinstalled on recent macs even if the restore partition has also died... through internet recovery. I had to do so about a year ago on my Air... major PITA in practice, and obviously needs an internet connection. Apple did think of total drive failure or replacement... SLOW on even a very fast net connection though. I have a USB drive sitting ready these days, and would highly recommend it to anyone. Better safe than sorry! Re: What's the deal now? no install disks with new computer? - olnacl - 06-17-2012 A little late to the party, but here's a link to a process that I used just a couple days ago to install plain vanilla Lion to my mid 2011 Mini Server. Since my server is set up as a RAID, I can't have a recovery partition and this gave me a restore image on a USB stick (Use 8 GB - won't quite fit on a 4 GB). Worked like a champ. |
