Re: Olympics? Please. - DP - 07-27-2012 I take it you have only OTA TV. Are you near Canada? I am in SE lower MI and get CBC both by cable and OTA-although Canada is not broadcasting in hi-def, oddly enough... I just thought, what about internet streaming but sam3 beat me to it. I know that you can go into an event not knowing the outcome and it is similar to watching it as it happens, but it's not the same as knowing that the sweat and tears are actually falling at the same time as you are seeing them. Re: Olympics? Please. - Manlove - 07-27-2012 I can't help but feel that America really doesn't care that the world comes together to celebrate the best in physical human possibility and achievement. The Olympics did mean something to me as a child. I felt like the world could just get along, despite the Cold War and the Troubles in Northern Ireland. I get the feeling that America doesn't care. ![]() Re: Olympics? Please. - Manlove - 07-27-2012 DP wrote: We have the most basic possible Comcast service. It is via cable but is basically the same as OTA plus some shopping channels. We don't watch tv so I don't really know. There is one state between me and Canada so I doubt CBC is an option. Thanks for the ideas though. Re: Olympics? Please. - Manlove - 07-27-2012 Sam3 wrote: I think we have the same service! I pay $13 for tv plus $45 for cable internet plus taxes etc. I can't stomach giving them another $65 for 3 weeks of Olympics. I might have to look into a VPN, which is out of my payscale, but hey, maybe I'll learn me something! Re: Olympics? Please. - Sam3 - 07-27-2012 Manlove wrote: I think we have the same service! Comcast/NBC doesn't look at us as being good enough customers... er... consumers. (being snarky here) Where would you VPN into? Do you have a foreign machine somewhere? Re: Olympics? Please. - Manlove - 07-27-2012 "Where would you VPN into? Do you have a foreign machine somewhere?" I have no idea at the moment. I am entirely new to the concept. My sister is in London... Re: Olympics? Please. - modelamac - 07-27-2012 You know, at this late hour you just might be better off throwing $ at the dilemma and spending the $65. You can handle the temporary upgrade over the phone and be done with it. Watch and enjoy everything and cancel the service next month. The alternative is to rush around trying to find an alternative, meanwhile missing a lot of events. There is no guarantee you will succeed in finding a better solution. You will still be pissed that it is necessary, but WILL get to watch the Olympics. Your only free and easy option is to watch it online (TV station) the next day, providing the events you want to watch are available online. Re: Olympics? Please. - Manlove - 07-27-2012 Modelamac, i fear that you are absolutely correct and that that will be my course of action. Thanks all. Happy Olympics and may team GB win at least a few medals!
