I'd definitely go internal for that SSD. Put the hd external.

So we've decided that "John Dough's" client's son is going to want to have his files split between and SSD and an HDD? I don't think so...

??? That's not my meaning. But you COULD do that, duct taping the drive in a case to the back of the iMac. Smaller SSD is cheaper. That combination would work fine.

Easiest thing is to get a 240+ GB SSD as you suggested earlier.
