Re: GPS on drugs? - macphanatic - 01-17-2013 I've heard that certain pharmaceutical bulk packs have a gps tracking device to help track the package from manufacturer to distributer to pharmacy. The tracker would not be dispensed to a consumer, but could track the container if it were stolen/taken from the pharmacy. Some banks are now using gps devices in money packs or bags that are used if robbed. There's been a couple of news stories covering this in the last few weeks. I know many places that use them for such things - I do. Depending on the type of tag technology that you use, you can get distances up to 30ft from a reader - have readers (like wireless access points) distributed throughout a venue, then you have a great tool to monitor resource numbers and locations. Many people use RFIDs everyday and don't even realize it.
