Sorry you out-of-towners didn't get the joke. Not only has Lauder been working hard for decades on his collection, but his blockbuster cash gifts and fund-raising to museums are much appreciated by NYC museum-goers. And in addition to this stuff, the Lauders actually come by their money though legit hard work, unlike the Wall Street scum one sees in the big ticket arts headlines. I hope to see these works soon. As many a visit to the Met proves, seeing original art works is unlike any secondary experience.

By the way, even though the Metropolitan Museum 'suggests a donation' of $25 to get in, you can pay any price you want. (A short anecdote..one time a while ago, I had an hour to kill, so I dropped by the Met and gave the admissions guy a dollar. The smarmy bastard says, "Suggested admission is $15". I deadpanned "May I have 75¢ change please?" and watched while he counted out the quarters.)
