I help things along, take the kids shopping, perhaps lend them money, perhaps make reservations, etc, but I feel strongly that it would take away from the kids' gift and favor giving if I amped up things on mother's day. I really don't understand guys who try to compete with their kids on this day but I've observed it many times. There are plenty of other opportunities to celebrate her, and our relationship, that there doesn't need to be yet another. Is Valentine's Day, Birthday, Anniversary, Xmas not enough? How would feel if you got tools for a birthday? My wife has a good friend who told her husband, "Don't ever give me a gift that plugs in." It was her anti-appliance, anti-practical gift edict. At one birthday party for my wife, I gave her a tape measure. I lost a few points that day in her friend's eye but I gained major points at home. ![]() |
