GF just bought one, and added a gas dryer while I went to look at Macs. Oh well, its her CC.
I know it's not the switch because it does the first spin and and stops completely if I open the lid. I will try to fix it, I'm thinking belt or weak motor.

We just replaced our top loading Whirlpool with a top loading Samsung. Got 8 years out of the Whirlpool, which the repair guy said was pretty good for a newer washer. They don't build them like they used to. Not sure why the wife prefers the top loader, but she wouldn't even look at the front load ones. We got ours at a Sears Outlet. It has a small dent in the side, but they took about $300 off the regular price, and it has the same warranty as new.

I thought of that, but it will spin if I give it a whirl by hand. Maybe it's a bearing. Just washed a small load, no problem.

If it runs a small load fine, I wonder if there is an issue with the out of balance sensor.

It doesn't spin at all, it feels like the tub is binding, that's why I think it is a bearing, which is a huge job.
