Re: Ink Jet Printer info - Robert M - 04-27-2014 Heap1, I've seen the Officejet Pro 8600 in the mid-to high $160s as of late. The Officejet Pro 8100 is its single-function sibling and uses the same secondary paper tray. I have both machines - the 8600 at home and 8100 at my office. The 8100 has the second paper tray. It's a very worthwhile accessory. Haven't tried it for envelopes but it handles sheets of labels nicely. Robert Re: Ink Jet Printer info - heap1 - 04-27-2014 There must be different models of the HP 8600. The one I link to on Amazon has a second paper tray. Paul Re: Ink Jet Printer info - Robert M - 04-27-2014 Heap' Yups. Three different versions if I remember correctly. The second paper tray itself is about $75 or so. Robert Re: Ink Jet Printer info - LyleH - 04-27-2014 I use Office Depot's Clean Seal #10 envelopes - but I don't run them through my Brothers Laser printer because I use the ones with a window for the mailing address to show through. They do have "Clean Seal" envelopes without a window, too. To seal them you pull off a paper strip, which exposes the glue - no licking necessary. These might not have a problem with a laser printer - but they do seem kind of expensive. LyleH Re: Ink Jet Printer info - RgrF - 04-29-2014 Thanks for the responses and advice. Robert M and I have had this discussion before and his take on the problem of envelope printing has merit. We print about 2K # 10 env/mo so speed isn't an issue. Load capacity, print quality and ease of use are. I've settled on an Epson WF5440 for $130 or so with available generics and a low end Canon backup. PS: One of the dying low end Canons was flashing an ink reservoir overflow alert (something I'd never seen before) while stalling and refusing to print or printing multiple copies. I came across a hack that reset the electronics, while it didn't empty the overflow it got the unit working again. |
