I'd use the case to make a hackintosh...

That's a good model... that's the fastest non-liquid cooled PM they made I think.

They do make good space heaters, but if you need more airflow, PM me and I'll make you a heck of a deal on a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL; the ultimate video card for that beast, capable of driving two 30" monitors in addition to the impressive CFM's it moves out the back of the machine. You have ample memory for Leopard, and you ought to be able to scavenge a couple of 256's or 512's for those empty slots... I had 5.5GB RAM in our old one, same sticks as yours, plus a pair of 512's in lieu of your emptys. Leopard on one drive, Tiger on the other, and a lot of air coming out whatever it was running. Great find, congrats.

For $40... - RAMd®d - 04-28-2014

…I'd have no problem gutting it, parting out, and making an HD farm out of it.

It would be a huge enclosure full of external HDs and SSDs, with power strip and fan. Maybe other peripherals as well that don't need daily physical access.

FINALLY a useful function for the Monolith.

I have a pair of dual 1.8 models still running. They run 24/7 as servers. Raid cards, 4 4TB drives plus a boot drive in each. Solid machines. I had a 2.5 water cooled one that was pretty fast, I mean as fast as most C2D machines but my new i7 mini is a lot faster as most things. My biggest issue with my 2.5 G5 was not being able to run Photoshop CS5 and process the latest RAW files, if it were not for that I would still probably be using it

Yep, 6 core i7 clocked to 4.5 GHz would make an awsome rig.

ugh, if someone paid me $40 to take one of these, I might. But compared to the utility of even an early intel Mac Pro or a recent Mac Mini, I don't know that I'd be able to bring myself to plug it in and pay the power bill.

I love 10.4, but the only problem is finding a browser that will play nice with certain websites. If you are not going to use it for surfing, I would definitely leave it on Tiger.

TenFourFox.

My old liquid-cooled G5 would raise the temp in my office 10 degrees during the summer. I don't miss it.
