Re: Who do we like for Homeowner's Insurance? - steve... - 05-30-2014 Thanks for your suggestions. So far I've called Farmers and Hartford who had similar prices to what I'm paying now. I also called USAA and talked to a very nice woman who quoted me prices of about 85% of what I'm paying now, plus she said I would get a dividend of about $80 after a year. I told her I'd think about it but am pretty sure I'll be signing up with them. I'm going to check on a few other companies first. cbelt3 wrote: I found this page that may help, click on: Who can join Re: Who do we like for Homeowner's Insurance? - cbelt3 - 05-30-2014 Turns out I'm not eligible. Oh well. Re: Who do we like for Homeowner's Insurance? - Ombligo - 05-30-2014 USAA is often the best if you qualify, My dad was in the service in the late 20's but we have nothing to prove it (his records burned in the St. Louis Military Record Archive fire). He died in 1992 in any case. We have used Auto-Owners for home and car for years. The rates were excellent, they kept coverage in Florida when everyone else was running away or upping rates by thousands. We get a discount on both policies, plus we took out a small life insurance policy that nets us a 10% discount as well - that saves us about $400/year and the premium is only $100/year. So we save ~$300 and get $10,000 in life insurance on my son. Re: Who do we like for Homeowner's Insurance? - Racer X - 05-30-2014 I have had USAA in the past for Renters and Auto. They were great. I think my ex-wife still uses them. USAA is not-for-profit, so if they have excess funds at the end of the fiscal year, they rebate them. Re: Who do we like for Homeowner's Insurance? - GuyGene - 05-30-2014 Sorry boys, something in me makes me answer like the above to questions like this. My favorite is, "Anybody bought a ____?". To which I like to reply, nope, they've gone out of bidness. I ain't right. Okay, I qualify for USAA, but been with State Farm so long I hate to change. They've been good, and I do know my agent. Re: Who do we like for Homeowner's Insurance? - Gutenberg - 05-31-2014 I have heard terrible things about State Farm, but since it's agent-driven that might vary from region to region. Re: Who do we like for Homeowner's Insurance? - Don C - 05-31-2014 When I was working, I bought auto and home from a payroll deduction plan figuring it to be the best possible deal but a neighbor put me on to an AutoOwners agent down the street and much to my surprise she found better insurance for much less than I had been paying. I've been very pleased with the service she has provided, both by going to bat for us at a time when we "needed an advocate" and in continuing to look for good prices. |
