Re: advice on durable smart phone? - vision63 - 09-07-2014 Why not just open the phone up and replace the battery? That's a big reason people buy those phones. Also there is the Galaxy S5 Active. Designed to be rugged and waterproof out of the box. Re: advice on durable smart phone? - mattkime - 09-07-2014 vision63 wrote: already did that! ...hm, the S5 active looks interesting! Re: advice on durable smart phone? - testcase - 09-07-2014 Many (Most?) Android based phones have accessible batteries so, a dead / low battery can be swapped out with a charged spare. As mentioned, have chargers at home, work in the car etc. If GF is truly as hard on phones as you indicate, I'd stay with a much less expensive Android based model that can be replaced as needed. If you do get her onto iOS, perhaps buy it at a vendor like Best Buy and, get their extended warranty that will cover hard use. I didn't have time to elaborate earlier, but I was also thinking of AppleCare. My wife just got a new iPhone free because of the battery issue. After having used her's one year 9 months. We saved money by buying it at Apple store and no contract. Re: advice on durable smart phone? - Filliam H. Muffman - 09-08-2014 A case with battery extended can double the life and help protect the phone. Re: advice on durable smart phone? - C(-)ris - 09-08-2014 I don't make it an entire day with an iPhone without having to charge in the middle of the day. Been that way with every iPhone I've ever had. If you do a lot of web surfing and have a lot of push accounts setup along with Wifi enabled it will eat the battery life. No fault of the iPhone, I've borrowed other's iPhones that get 2 days between charges and they will be dead in 6 hours with my use. I've had every single iPhone from the original to the 5s (Except the 5c). If the new model has a sapphire screen that will help, but people will still be able to scuff/damage the casing and possibly still break internal components. I agree with those suggesting something like a Moto G with a decent case. Cheap enough you could swap out a new one every year and still come ahead of the average two year expensive smartphone user. You get one more repair at $49 and as far as I can tell your accidental coverage is no longer valid. Re: advice on durable smart phone? - silvarios - 09-08-2014 C(-)ris wrote: I agree. Granted, I only have an iPhone 3GS to test, but it is similar to nearly every other smartphone I've owned. Pretty easy for me to burn through the battery is 4-6 hours if I use it like an actual work computer. My Nokia e72 could get really good battery life compared to most modern phones, but the screen was smaller and the battery comparatively huge. |
