Re: Poll: Lens or Mac? - wowzer - 10-17-2014 Hackintosh and the lens? Re: Poll: Lens or Mac? - DRR - 10-17-2014 The Mac is going to duplicate functionality you already have. I assume the lens will give you functionality you don't currently have, so I vote lens. If you find that you're light in the processing department, I'd sell the MP and the mini and maybe buy an iMac. Or, (I'm ducking as I type this) if you need to do a lot of RAW batch processing, buy a Windows machine and run Lightroom exclusively on it. You can get more cores for less money, and if it's a singular task, it doesn't really matter that it's a Windows machine. JMO. Re: Poll: Lens or Mac? - mrbigstuff - 10-17-2014 I always vote photo equipment because that's what gets me excited much more so than a computer. Re: Poll: Lens or Mac? - OWC Jamie - 10-17-2014 send me the d800 so you have no monster files and get the preoccupyingly new lens Re: Poll: Lens or Mac? - sekker - 10-17-2014 I think an external TB SSD RAID drive would likely be very effective at speeding up a lot of your computational needs. Load all of your raw image files and use it for scratch drive. You can roll your own 1TB for around $750 for sure, cheaper if you shop around. Re: Poll: Lens or Mac? - Speedy - 10-17-2014 I think it says a lot about Apple's new offerings that the lens is getting more votes given the nature of this forum's bias. PCs and Macs have well matured, the constant need for "more more more RAM more more GHz more more cores" has really leveled out. 90%+ of people would be equally as well served with something off the shelf as a computer from 4 years ago. Not a lot of incentive to upgrade. I certainly appreciate my newer machines, but I'd by lying if I said I couldn't get by on 2010 tech. Re: Poll: Lens or Mac? - mikebw - 10-17-2014 Just start shooting JPG, and your problems magically go away. Re: Poll: Lens or Mac? - datbeme - 10-17-2014 What lens? Can you sell any of your old Mac equipment? |
